I made these delicious treats as a Hostess gift / ‘Thank you” for a friend of mine.  The recipe was courtesy of Williams Sonoma “Cupcakes”.  Cake is milk chocolate, filling is dark chocolate and frosting is white chocolate buttercream.  I sprinkled cocoa on top for added appeal, though once you taste these decadent treats you realize they need NOTHING added to make them exquisite.  These treats get five stars in my book!

P.S. – I would have cut the cupcake in half to show you the AMAZING filling, but once we all got going eating these treats we were far too busy to stop to take a picture!

Coconut Lime Cupcakes May 5, 2009

I recently received a KILLER recipe book for cupcakes.  I couldn’t wait for a birthday to make these treats, so I decided to make them as a dessert for a weekly dinner we have with our friends.  They were a HIT!

Coconut Lime Cupcakes

These treats were gone so fast that I forgot to take a picture.  This is the last cupcake left of the bunch.  Coconut cake with fresh lime curd filling and coconut buttercream frosting.  Garnished with sweetened coconut.  SO YUMMY…definitely a make again!

Hydrangea Cake

Hydrangea Cake

Last week I had my first experience working with gum paste.  I had heard that they make more realistic flowers than fondant, so I gave it a go.  Gum paste is definitely different, and I think it will take a bit more to perfect the art, but I am willing to give it a shot.  The cake above is a 10″ round chocolate cake with fudge filling, and butter cream and fondant frosting.  This cake will serve 20+ people.  (It was for a spring bridal shower).

Birthday Cake January 24, 2009

My brother in law and mother in law are celebrating their birthdays this month.  With the whole clan coming over, I decided to make a grown up birthday cake.  The cake is a kahlua chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling and buttercream and fondant frosting.  The roses are fondant, and I really like the technique I used…will definately be doing that again.

Made for a co-worker preparing to go to Italy for her birthday, I used a vineyard inspired theme.  (Forgive the poor picture quality…it is a picture of a picture that she provided for me.)

My son's 1st Birthday Cake

A great idea for children’s birthdays are cupcakes.  There is no cake cutting involved, and everyone gets the same size “piece”.  You can also vary flavors, colors, etc. which help to accommodate different tastes.

Because I am a first time mommy, I did make a sugar-free cake for my son.  Yes, it was slightly more labor intensive and expensive, but it ended up to be moist and delicious, and other babies at the party could eat it too.  :-)
